Artistic idea
My idea was based on the initial situation of a passage and, therefore, the artistic process was influenced by the topics of transition and transformation. Transformation by internal and external processes, transition between life and death, symbolized by the shaman travelling between the worlds (backside of the front house), the higher principle, God and Goddess throwing their flashes into the sky and keeping the elements in balance (left-side building).
The flow of life on the right-side building depicts the meaning of life over its course, with all its dangers and adventures. I wanted to record the magic moment of the instant and to inspire the spectators to endeavor their own creative process of involvement, to create their own associative pictures, their own connotations, meaning something to and touching anyone (young or old, rich or poor, sophisticated or ordinary people). The courtyard’s design as an invitation to rest for a while is being appreciated by the people living here, as well as by visitors.
My artistic aim was it to trigger chains of associations in the viewers by combining diverse materials with the symbolic character of painted icons. They are to make the viewers dream, to recognize their most hidden wishes and to arouse their joy of living by the ease of being. However, all of these things are not found by superficiality but by a deep understanding of the connections and the meaning of our existence.
Implementation
It was my intention to achieve an interesting blend of various artistic means of expression (ceramic mosaics, relief, sculpture and painting) in a harmonic consonance with the existing architecture and, at the same time, a gentle handling of the old (historic building) and the new, with a modern concept of art in architecture.
Materials used
Mosaics, stone carvings, sandstone bases, sculptures made of iron and steel, paintings: seed colors (pastel-like silicate paint)
